Even non-football folks have a good chance of knowing the name “Vince Lombardi” – one of the most famous football coaches ever. In January of 1970, his (Lombardi) professional coaching record stood at a remarkable 105-35-6, unmarred by a losing season .
Many famous quotes are attributed to this man during his tenure, one of my favorites is “Gentlemen this is a football”. Coach Lombardi was a master of basics and a myth buster at heart. This quote was born of his belief every player needed to be aware of the most fundamental elements of the game.
Today’s Internet/WEB is as “complex and competitive” a space to win in as any football league or arena. Knowing basic fundamentals can save a lot of grief and money. SMB’s (Small and Medium businesses) in particular are challenged by limited dollars and the time needed to gain expertise about the internet. Yet knowing key basics and avoiding common myths, can help anyone be a better competitor and winner on the WEB – it always comes down to WEB presence. Here are three basic myths to be aware of and avoid.
Over the next 3 days I’ll talk in more detail about each and tell you what you should be doing instead.
- Myth #1 – Having a “Domain Name” is the same as having a WEB site.
- Truth – a Domain Name is just a registration, nothing else.
- Myth #2 – I have a WEB Site, so I automatically show up in Search Engines.
- Truth – Search Engines don’t know you are there unless you tell them.
- Myth #3 – WEB presence is the same has having a WEB site.
- Truth – Web sites are just the “tip” of the WEB Presence iceberg.
