A major shift is taking place on the web – your business may need to make some adjustments to both accommodate and take advantage of these changes. Here is the story, are you taking advantage of this opportunity?
“ Location, Location, Location” are the 3 most important things in Real Estate – is a famous quote known throughout the real property industry. As we evolve more to WEB 2.0 we find that “Local, Local, Local” is becoming equally as important in the world of Cyberspace, Search and Web Presence.
The Internet/WEB has redefined the world, reducing it to a sort of Global Village. That means virtually every spot on the globe is for all practical purposes electronically within reach from all other spots on the globe, thus a single village in concept. Yet human behavior and people’s habits are still very local oriented. It becomes just too overwhelming to have the world view whenever we make a simple query of the web. This natural desire to “live with a local focus” is becoming a part of how WEB 2.0 operates.
Today, a large percentage of WEB searches include a “geographic identifier” of some kind, whether it be a town, city, state or just a zip code. This is natural because we feel more comfortable with search results that focus around our local thinking. In the case of mobile phones that include GPS (meaning the device is capable of determining its own physical location) we don’t even need to enter location in a WEB search, the device already knows it. Consider the following quotes about how web search has become localized:
“We expect to ship about 35 million GPS-enabled Nokia devices in 2008, which is equal to the entire GPS device market in 2007,” Nokia CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo.
We like to make search as easy as we can, so we’ve just finished the worldwide rollout of local search results on a map, which will now appear even when you don’t type in a location” Google Becomes More Local – The Official Google Blog 4/6/2009
With desktop and laptop computers the user’s location is more of an estimate (uses IP address mapping) than with mobile devices having GPS. Regardless, with location so interwoven into our lives a brave new world of location-based computer interaction is being established. With that comes the need to adjust the “Web Presence” of your domain name.
We know over 80% of Web users look for companies on the WEB first versus the yellow page book or other printed directories. But if you’re a local or regional business would you prefer a weak & small Global presence – or – a Strong & Large local presence? The latter usually provides the better payback – CLICK HERE to learn more about localized Web options. You’ll learn that you may be able to get a large “localized” Web Presence for far less $ than a much smaller “global” Web Presence.
