This blog’s tag line is “IP is what connects the Digital Age World” and VoIP is what now connects us for Voice communications. VoIP redefined the telephony industry with flat-rate pricing for Long-Distance domestic calling. Today we call from Hawaii to New York for the same price as calling our neighbor across the street. The effect is the world becomes a smaller place – because distance no longer plays a part in the cost of doing something.

Well this week VONAGE Holdings Corp., which helped pioneer VoIP for the mass market is shrinking the World even more. Flat-rate international calling (via IP based phone service), is being added to it’s standard monthly plan.
…CEO Marc Lefar said Wednesday that Vonage will include unlimited calls to more than 60+ countries at the same $25/mo price of their standard plan, replacing a plan of the same price that included unlimited calls to only 6 countries.
The diagram to the right visually illustrates a similar phenomenon resulting from population growth. Consider the impact of all this – it is easier and easier to communicate with more people than ever. You can now pick up your everyday phone and talk directly to people in 60 countries without fear of wallet-emptying phone bills. If you have international based family or friends, talking real time is as easy as talking to a next-door neighbor. Think of how this will alter the perspective of the world and global relations to today’s children.
